Togo, Africa pictures 8

My first ankle fracture. Rather difficult patient, didn't trust him to be compliant, so I placed a screw, placed a rush rod AND casted. Cut a window to view the open/monitor the wound.

The 100,000 patient registered at Hospital of Hope.

Cystoscopy, bladder cancer

The ferocious African wildlife!

Thankful for these generators. The electrical power from the city is unreliable and is cut off on a daily basis, sometimes short periods, sometimes longer. The generators on compound keep the lights on at the hospital, and keep our fans going.

I feel I have never truly appreciated a fan until here and I realize the difference a little air movement can make turning a wiltering heat into something comfortable.

A miracle. Nothing but dead, dry dust the entire time I've been here. One massive downpour and the green started sprouting.

Wed March 22 was the start of Ramadan. Team prayer for our Muslim friends and coworkers.

Maintenance Shop converted into a hockey rink.
It only lasted one weekend, but many games were played.

Those daily power surges simultaneously  fried all three of the municipal water pumps for the town of Mango. We have been out of water for days, still unknown when it will return.

The town has been getting their water directly from the Oti. Cases of Giardia and Typhoid have been increasing. The compound has also filled its super tanks with water from the Oti. It then is allowed to settle for at least 24 hours prior to running it through our own filtration system. Priority is the hospital, otherwise access to water is turned off to save it for the hospital. We have access instead to a supertank that we can fill our bucket with water from.

Single's Night at the Drake's. Theme was medieval times. We have fun dressing in accordance to the theme. There was a heavy brown velvet skirt with thick gold embroidery that I was able to pull on.

Turkey legs, potatoes, carrots and onions, dates, bread, cheese, grapes, triffle, custard cake, sage water and honey milk

In celebration of April 1st, someone drew a fish on the OR board in honor of le poisson d'avril (April's Fish).

Much Love.
