Yo estoy en Ixtlan.

Spending some extended time in Ixtlan this week.

Yesterday during the evening singing the clouds that had been darkening ever since about 1 pm decided to finally open up. The pounding rain against the cement-asbestos-fiberglass mixture of a roof tried its hardest to drown out our words, and though hymn numbers had to be repeated about 7 times for everyone to hear them the singing rose to the challenge ringing louder and longer than the echoing raindrops.

The two hours of volleyball that typically follow the Sunday singing was cancelled due to the rain moving us all indoors. With sissors in hand we sat down at the table and began cutting out the crafts for the upcoming VBS. Three hours later with hand cramped up, feet asleep, and the rest just incredibly ansy we called it anight, unfortunately there is still much more cutting to be done. Wow! Three hours of cutting out tiny fingers, horses, and baskets....I have a new appreciation for primary school teacher's aides.

Yo estoy leyendo.

We have been enjoying much cooler temperatures this week. Cloudy skies have been hiding the sun fairly well lately preventing the mid-afternoon high from reaching much over 80. It's rather enjoyable as I snuggle into the nice comfy couches that I am 'storing' for my classmate in my apartment while she is home for the summer and read my book.

Here's a couple thoughts from Ravi Zacharias:

"To strut into a courtroom guilty and claim innocence is not power but weakness.

To refuse to acknowledge failure is not success but self-deception.

To resist repentance before God is not intelligence but folly.

To be puffed up with pride in the face of wrongdoing is not to become bigger but to become hollow."

Uncle Kevin has been saving the chocolates the hotel puts on his pillow at night when the maid turns down his bed and giving them to me. What can I say...I'm pretty spoiled. :) The other day though when the morning maid came, made the bed, and left, the uneaten chocolate had disappeared with her. Uncle Kevin was pretty upset, and has been hiding the chocolate in a drawer ever since.

Yo estoy en la segunda semana.

Carrie's week has come and gone and with it my first week of summer has whizzed by. (She did feel better the next morning, thanks to all who prayed.) A few photos from our week together.

After tacos during Carrie's "Welcome to Guadalajara" Night we spent the evening playing Dutch Blitz. (Both Saturday & Sunday in Ixtlan we also played the vonderful goot game!!)

Starting with Carrie and going around the table: Carrie, Me, Shabnam, Ronnie (standing), Feroz, Daffydd, Triffinie, Sung, Daniel, Denise

In Barra de Navidad we had fun catching the waves.

or...inevitably the waves caught us whether we were ready or not

Yesterday was a long day for me. Up early to take Carrie to her early flight. Trip during the afternoon to take Sung to the airport. Then late in the evening another trip to the airport to pick up Uncle Kevin. I went to bed really tired last night!!

So my second week of summer has started with the arrival of my Uncle. Let's see what adventures are upon us!

Yo estoy criando por mi hermana.

Lots to say, and not the will to say it. Oh dear, such a conundrum!

Well, had an accident last Wednesday. not bad, not bad (see photo for reference)

Thursday I asked one of my classmates, Diego, to come with me and help me with my Spanish as I was to meet with the Italian whom I had rear ended and sort out the situation. May I just say God Bless Diego!!!! In addition, my insurance was so helpful. The exact opposite of what I'm used to receiving in the States. I had purchased a cheap basic Mexican car insurance not because I wanted to use it, but so that the cops couldn't use it against me should I ever be stopped. The insurance rep sent out to help us, Daniel, was calm, understanding, and reassuring. He even smiled!!! Even when the Italian started getting upset and threatened to call a lawyer! so, God Bless Daniel!!!!

Friday my sister, Carrie came to visit. Spent the weekend in Ixtlan. Then spent a couple of days in Barra de Navidad enjoying the sun and the beach. I've got burns on both my elbows and knees where the waves threw me into, and then pushed me against the sand. Carrie's got one on her tummy too! hehe!

We just got back about 3 hours ago. Then 1 1/2 hours ago Carrie got sick. Cancelled the plans I had for tonight. Maybe if she's able to fall asleep I'll just go to bed early too. :(

Prayer request: Carrie's swift return to health!

Yo estoy comiendo helado!!!!!!!!

It has gotten hot here in Guadalajara. The rain that came a while ago has since stopped and with it temps have gone back up again.
I guess I really shouldn't complain as humidity is still really low making it still cooler than Illinois in the summer time. But without an air conditioner, I'm finding it harder to focus.
I've even started refridgerating my water, as it's the only means of cooling myself down that I've found. I'm thankful to report that it works!!

I made a concoction the other day of flor de calabaza with chicken and pasta.
Took a picture of it as I found it humerous how some of the macaroni noodles refused to drown in the mixture!

Hey! Carrie! My landlord hired someone to clean up the walks and stairs of my building,so it would look all nice for you. And we're all getting together for a taco night tomorrow night so everyone can meet you. Yes! Feel special, very special!!

One more exam

Yo estoy triste.

Just got back from taking my Immunology final. I drew a picture for you to summarize how I'm feeling.

Now no jokes about the artistry. I did my best!! ;)

Anyways, that's done, Lord willing, and now I'm going to clean my bathroom! I don't think I've ever been this excited before to clean a bathroom! I think immuno has gone to my head.... or something.

In other news, Triffinie's engaged! Yes, I know, talk about sudden. One day out of the blue she receives an email from a guy she hasn't seen nor talked to in 23 YEARS! Two days later..... Kind of sounds ACish doesn't it? It's fun to listen as she tells the newest developments in the relationship. I can tell she's falling in love. Makes me smile.

Yo estoy lista para un descanso.

Life's a bit dry at the moment. If I'd wanted to sue, I'd blame it on T cells and B cells and all the cytokines in between, but no, I don't want to sue, I just wish they were easier concept to understand.

Physio final was this past Tuesday. I'll tell you, it is not possible for time to pass by quicker than when taking an intense, thought demanding test such as this. You could be having the best time in the world and three hours would still pass by slower than a three hour physio final.

We had Dr. Azimi in Public Health this week. Most people liked him, but he just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Thought he absolutely knew it all, and couldn't understand why people would come to class late and not be sitting on the edge of their chair to listen to his every word. His material was rather boring, as it was common sense or because we already knew it. He often made the comment that he couldn't make his lectures any more interesting than he already had. Phsssh! Give us life-application! Give us personal examples! Don't just read off of slides, then lead us on saying 'what's next is going to be more fun,' then have it be the same picture of a sneeze already shown to us 3 times before.

On a much lighter note, watch this and perhaps you'll understand why soccer is the coolest game ever!!!!!!!
